I had all kinds of issues with the original plate. I tried tape but the tape just ended up welded to the printed item. I finally got pretty good at getting it to work. When I bought the upgrade plate and installed it (note, you have to re-do your z-limit switch setting) it has been a dream. The parts stay stuck during printing and come loose easily afterward. It also is much more dimensionally stable.
I had originally modified the original printing plate that I received with the SainSmart Ender-3 Printer plate to be covered with wide painters tape with double sided tape covering the footprint of the object I was printing. However, I thought I would try the SainSmart Ender-3 3D printer tempered glass plate. I figured a glass with a textured coating had to do pretty well, not to mention that it would looked much nicer. Setting the bed to 60 degrees Celsius worked like a charm with this beautiful glass plate. The PLA had no problem sticking to the hot glass surface and the textured coating helped greatly with preventing sliding. Although, doing prints with very small legs as its base, such as the mini-Eiffel Tower, still require (for me anyway) the use of double sided tape ... due to the inherent instability of such small and projecting parts at the base. DO be careful when cleaning the surface. Do not use a metal scraper as it will scratch/remove the textured coating. I switched to using a plastic putty knife instead. I highly recommend this product!
