Upgrade your 3018-PROVer / 3018-PROVer Mach3 / 3018-MX3: Upgrade with a more powerful 300-500W motor with a 52mm spindle mount. (Note: this aluminum holder is not compatible with the GS775 47mm spindles such as the stock spindle and the 20K spindle for the Genmitsu 3018 router.) there is a Z-axis rotary knob on its top. You can adjust the height of the Z-axis manually without power.

If you would like to add a laser to this spindle holder, you need to add an extra motor mount. You can download the 3D model to print one.

I upgraded the original plastic z axis carriage with this. The installation is straightforward. You may have to adjust the location of your boards on the x-axis beam so your wiring has enough slack. The quality is outstanding. I love the z-axis adjustment know on top of the stepper motor. I can quickly set z on different size items without jogging the stepper motor via the computer. A little disappointed no adapter is being offered for the 5.5 laser but I’ve ordered one from an online 3D printing service using the spec-file Sainsmart provided. I also made one myself out of wood to get me by until the ABS one arrives. Keep in mind you’ll lose about 5mm travel in each direction on the x-axis as this carriage is wider and beefier than the plastic one.

I, like others, didn't initially realize that my laser would not fit into the new spindle holder. I don't yet have a 3D printer to make the model provided by Sainsmart. So I thought I'd share what I did to possibly help others in my situation. I cut 3 spacers from a sheet of 1/4" HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) I had laying around that I got from Amazon. I used the online Easel software to cut them with my current spindle setup. They fit the laser and spindle holder perfectly and I'd be happy to share the Easel project with anyone who is interested. firstname.lastname@example.org
What a difference
It fit perfectly and reduced the vibrations. I can now machine gears with no chatter marks. If I could recommend an upgrade it would be this!

a lot quieter with new Z axis, less vibration
I bought the 3018 Prover and the bed add on to make it 3040 Prover then upgraded to 300w spindle and aluminum carriage. I have to say everything was better than I expected and cuts great. I would give the entire machine and transaction 10 stars if I could.
Aluminum Spindle holder
Haven’t had a chance to use it yet waiting on bits. Very good setup includes limit switches too. Easy instructions on changing it over. Larger spindle motor fits great and snug without any play.
This spindle motor is far more powerful than the original little GS775, 24 volt spindle motor. This spindle motor uses a variable 0-48 volt power supply - twice the voltage, twice the RPM. It's well worth the USD $99.99. To effectively use this more powerful spindle motor, you will also need the Genmitsu Aluminum Spindle Holder for 3018PROVer, costing an additional USD $99.99. It takes about a half hour to swap out the old, for the new... It's well worth the extra cost. This machine will make a great printed circuit board fabricating machine!
