Big features in a small package

I received this unit as a Christmas gift. The contents were packed well, documentation was easy to follow, and assembly took less than 15 minutes in total. Although this was my first laser of any type, I was able to use the online instructions to power up the unit, perform some test functions and easily get it connected to my PC via a USB connection. The ability to perform a test fire is proving invaluable to help position test media, while the homing feature gives me the ability to create jigs that I can use to easily and quickly place media of different types into and get quality, repeatable results. I am glad I did some research and chose this as my first diode laser and SainSmart as a vendor. The whole process from product research to actual use was simple and got me doing what I love doing. Making stuff.

Dangerous

Laser started by itself full power while my hand was target. My PC never recognized it. Avoid.

I love it!

I've had a few projects in mind for a while that I could do with a laser engraver, and with this machine I'm able to do them and do them very well. Assembly was easy, though not quite as non-existently easy one might expect from the the phrase "pre-assembled" in the title. ?? There are a number of software options for use with a laser engraver; some of them free and available for both Windows and Macs. After looking at the options for Macs, I decided to go with LightBurn. It's not free, but at only $40 (after a free 30-day trial) it's not expensive either. It's quite full-featured, has excellent documentation, and it recognized this Jinsoku LE-1620 engraver. I'm brand new to laser engraving, but I was getting good results out of this one in a couple of hours -- and most of that time was learning my way around the LightBurn software. I have two tips for noobs like me: First, put the engraver on your desk so that the home position is at the bottom left, not top left. That one caused me some frustration and confusion for a while. ?? Second, note that when you plug the machine into the power and your computer's USB, a red LED will light whether the engraver is turned on or not. Don't forget that you have to turn it on. (?? again.) The manual that comes with the engraver is almost exclusively for assembling it, and is fairly clear. For actually using the engraver, you'll be relying on whichever software package you choose and its documentation.

Great for smaller projects

I use this to engrave acrylic sheets and its been easier using this instead of my cricut maker. I've been making the engraved sheets for the LED stands and my son loves me being able to make what ere design he asks for. It comes almost fully assembled. It also includes some safety glasses as well for the laser. Of you're never used a laser engraver before, there are tons of videos on now to do it and the softwares you can use. This is a great small one that you can use for smaller projects.

Good documentation

This is a small laser engraver for wood and porous surfaces. Fully assembled, the device measures about 16x16x6 and will engrave a surface that measures 6x8. In the box, you get parts to assembly the device. You need to assemble the frame yourself, then add the X and Y axis modules, the laser module, connect the wires, and focus the laser. A USB A to USB B cable is included, as well as red goggles and an instruction manual. Software is not included, nor is there any information about how to use the software. Basic safety instructions are included in the manual, however. I find this engraver can do quite a bit more than my first laser engraver could. My first laser engraver was a LaserPecker. While the LaserPecker included the software as a phone app, its engraving area was quite limited, and the software was clunky as well as temperamental. This Genmitsu engraver can engrave on a larger surface, and PC-based software is much more capable than the LaserPecker software. You have several options for software, although the manual only mentions LightBurn. I use LaserGRBL, which is free. Its not entirely intuitive and it has its quirks, but when you get used to it, you can do a lot with it. This laser does a good job burning wood once you get the laser focused properly. The included fixed focal column piece helps with the focus. I am very happy to see the safety instructions listed in the booklet. Lasers can be really dangerous, so its good to be aware of the hazards before you start. Overall, this is a good choice for a small or beginning laser engraver.
