So far it is more than I thought it would be

It works very well !! I am very pleased with it for the price. It was a snap to put together however put lock tight on all the grub screws or they will loosen up. Other than that it is amazingly accurate. Very pleased and would recommend it. You cant go wrong for the price!

bravo! La machine CNC 3018-PRO est trs facile a monter et fiable je conseil fortement le logiciel Cut2D Elle dcoupe l'aluminium :-)

Great product, I highly recommend Easy to assemble, I was engraving in an hour! I had a question for customer service and they were super!!

Update: 12/4/18:They have reached out to me and are sending me a replacement rod. I went ahead and put together the machine with the damaged rod and since i'm probably the most impatient person... So I had to test it. Sadly the rod does make a difference when engraving that side would sag but the side that had the good rod had really impressive results. Now it's just finding software to use that makes sense.Previous review:Haven't even been able to test it yet since one of the linear rods' internal threads crumbled when trying to screw it in and it wasn't even being tightened. Trying to contact SainSmart to see if i can get a replacement but right now everything it put together and seems solid enough but that one rod is just being held up by the screw sitting in the hole. I believe if I were to actually run the machine it would just vibrate the screw out. I'm really hoping they can help, not looking forward to taking this apart and returning it. I will update if there is any changes.

I have to say, I was surprised. I have built a few 3d printers and an older style hobby cnc machine (at 3 times the price several years ago), so I am no newcomer to these kinds of builds. But this one was, by far, the easiest build ever. The parts were all flawless and it went together easily. From the time of opening the box to the time of completion and movement-testing was probably 2-2.5 hours. The main frame components appear to be a very heavy fiberglass of some sort. They seem very strong. The other components are pretty standard aluminum extrusions, lead screws, and basic hardware components. The lead screws are good quality, and the anti-backlash design is highly effective and easy to construct.Luckily, this version from Sainsmart includes a nice instruction booklet that is actually quite decent. That is sometimes a rarity for these Chinese builds, but a welcome sight. Everything was packed beautifully and securely in a well padded box, and all arrived unscathed from shipping and handling. One surprising thing was that the Z-carriage and stepper motor arrangement were already fully constructed and ready to be mounted to the crossbars. That saved a lot of time.In the pictures, you can see the machine in it's final state. The second picture is setup with electrical sensors for probing the bed height for pcb milling. It turns out that you just need to connect some clips to pin A5 on the controller and ground to make this work with most software. Thanks to the well-designed controller board, this was trivial, and it took me longer to make the wires than it did to connect them to the A5 pins on the controller board. So far, I have been using "Candle" or "bCNC" software to run the machine, and am experimenting with various other packages for pcb design and g-code generation, such as Flatcam, Fusion-360, and Eagle pcb design software. The only really tricky part in the whole construction is attaching the ER11 spindle shaft to the motor. This was accomplished by heating the Er11 with a blowtorch for a little while to make it expand (just short of it changing colors). Then simply press and "whack" it lightly into place on the motor shaft and letting it cool... all without touching it, of course, as it will stay quite hot for awhile. I used vise-grip style tools to hold the ER11 while heating it and pressing it on the motor shaft. It worked quite well, though I also had to press it against a concrete floor to help push it on.All-in-all, this is a very well designed machine, and quite a value. Kudos to Sainsmart for packaging a good product!

I got the 3018 PRO. It was tremendously easier to assemble than a 3d printer, and seems to be very rigid. Will work out of the box, but you will also need: Blue thread locker, a box of extra grub screws, a set of 1/8 end Mills, an extra motor and a small torch. Why the extra motor and torch? The chuck needs to be heated the be installed on the shaft, and it is a beast to get back off again - 775s are cheap. The brass knife chucks work ok, but will loosen and fall out after 10 minutes or so - locktite the grubs. I'd also recommend getting the off-line add-on so this doesn't need to be right next to a computer. Also, mine came with a ton of metal shavings in the box. They did not appear to be in the motors or bearings, but all of the extrusions were lousy with them. 30 seconds of compressed air took care of it, but something to be aware of.
