The device works. The day I received the device, I tried testing it. When I connected the probe to the device (straight not slanted), the device was not reading anything and had no idea why it wasn't reading a known signal. Upon inspection, the pin inside of the connector was bent and broken which left me with only the dso probe which the pin was slightly bent before connecting it to the device and was bent back into place when it was connected to the device. The fact that the regular probe broke within the first use was very discouraging and either a sign of poor manufacturing quality or a manufacturers defect.
I have just received the device and as soon as I connected the probe to the device input, the probe’s pin bent and broke. So I now need to order another probe. After that, before testing the device and connecting the alternate probe, I inspected the pin of that probe and the pin was slightly bent but when I connected it to the device it worked.
This is a terrific little tool for testing small electronics on the go. It's as long/tall as a credit card, and as wide as a smartphone. The build quality on the unit is solid.I use it for testing/troubleshooting vintage electronics and it does everything my 1970's tek 475 does.The signal generator is a nice bonus feature. The menus are easy to navigate.The downside is that it is only 1mhz. I would pay extra for 25mhz model, for sure. However - I have measured signals up to 3.4 mhz with success.The 1x probe is a little cheap, and the male pin in the BNC connector broke on the first day, but replacement probe are cheap and constructed with far more care.I was skeptical of this device, but after using it for a few weeks, I am very pleased with the unit.
I can't really complain. This is not a full blown replacement for a table-top device and I knew that before I bought it. Yes, it's way of controlling the different settings is .. well .. unusual but acceptable. It's small, but the screen is well readable. I am using it for audio device repairs and that works quite well. HOWEVER: It's not very sensitive and unable to reliably read signals as low as -50db (3 mV RMS, 8 mV p-p). So you might not be able to read the signal coming from your turntable cartridge. I am using a step-up-transformer to read very low signals, but YMMW.
This tiny O-scope is handy if you have a portable bench. To get more use out of it I recommend adding some velcro to keep it held in a larger travel case. It's so small that it slides around when you move the probes. I got the two channel model, which I recommend.
The first one received quit working after about two hours and was promptly replaced with a new DSO. Good customer service!!! The scope has lots of nice features that are mainly found in bench type scopes. I use it for audio performance test and it works great. It would be easier to work with if the probes used BNC as the small jacks tend to slip out. The thumb wheels work ok but its hard to push the switch without turning the wheel. I would buy it again.
I haven't used an oscilloscope in many years, and then only sparingly, but I was able to hook this up and diagnose a problem with a circuit in just a few minutes. The menus are pretty easy to navigate, and they're not too hard to understand despite the shorthand labeling (the thing is tiny, after all - not much room to give descriptive menus). The probe that came with it is functional but doesn't seem too solid. We'll see how long it lasts.
This is my first oscilloscope so I can't compare it to others, but it certainly seems to provide very good value for your money. It is very easy to use. The traces seem to be accurate. You can store images and download them. It lasts a long time on a battery charge, or you can leave the USB plugged in. The function generator is useful though you can't adjust the amplitude. There was a problem with my first one (it couldn't connect to any of serveral Windows computers I tried). Sainsmart customer support was excellent-- they sent me a new device that works flawlessly.
