This is the new Arduino compatible Mega 2560 R3. The new ATMega16U2 chip allows for faster transfer rates and more memory. No drivers needed for Linux or Mac
- Adds SDA and SCL pins next to the AREF.
- Two new pins are placed near the RESET pin. One is the IOREF that allow the shields to adapt to the voltage provided from the board. The other is a not connected and is reserved for future purposes
- Works with all existing shields but also compatible with new shields that require the additional pins.

Have three of these MEGAs (and some UNOs) from SainSmart and they all seem to be of high quality and comparable to the Arduino brand name product for a much better price. Don't hesitate to purchase!
Voltage regulator can\'t handle 12V
I have several of these boards, however there is one MASSIVELY GLARING issue that needs to be addressed.Recommended voltage input for these boards is 7-12v, with limits being 5-20v. I have tried endlessly to power these things with 12v PoE power supplies, and while they work, after several minutes the voltage regulator gets VERY hot, affecting its regulation, and causing the board to become unstable. They are better powered by the 5V PoE modules, but that leaves the board providing about 4.5v to the 5V spot from the board, meaning that adding more components could cause a further drop making the board unstable.
