With an integrated mainboard and custom software, communication between the software and hardware is seamless by design.
The Genmitsu uses Grbl, high performance, open-source software for controlling movement, and runs on Arduino. Its dependability and simplicity make Grbl an industry standard, so there’s no lack of support and resources available when you get stuck.
Capable of cutting all types of plastics, woods, acrylics, PVCs, soft aluminum, and PCBs, the Genmitsu can be used on a wide range of projects and materials.

The Genmitsu CNC
Designed for the absolute beginner, the Genmitsu is a great tool for starting CNC learning. If wood-working is your hobby, you can use it to add features like curved words and exquisite patterns. If you are a student just learning CNC, it can help you engrave models which you are coding and designing.
The Genmitsu is capable of cutting all types of plastics, soft aluminum, woods, acrylics, PVCs, and PCBs, and a wide range of other materials. The effective engraving depth is 1.8 inches. You will find the SainSmart Genmitsu is an excellent self-teaching tool which allows you to try your DIY ideas on an inexpensive platform without the risk of damaging expensive equipment.
The machine is quite neatly packed and it comes with an assembly instruction booklet.
You will feel the quality of its mechanical parts is excellent. The platform is quite sturdy, the lead screws are well made. It is pretty easy manually turning the screw to move the platform and the spindle around.

First Time CNC User
I have never used a CNC router machine before and wasn't sure what to expect in complicity of use. My etching and drilling needs are small, so this small volume/footprint machine was a perfect solution, especially give its low cost. It took me a little time to get used to the GRBLControl software, which comes with the machine (e.g., setting up home and depth - Z-axis). But after a couple of tries I was making cool etchings that came with the software. I just need to figure out how to make my own G-code files now. I highly recommend this machine for beginners or those who don't need a large volume to work with. Great for making cool crafts!
What software do you guys use?

I’ve installed the driver and get no response or a message “port opened”, why?
Answer: If the keypad controller is plugged in the USB won’t work. Likewise if the USB is connected the keypad cannot be used. The control board can only communicate with one at a time.
Where do the 3 little sticky backed heat sinks go?
Answer: one on each of the stepper motor drivers(IC chips on the control board (just below each plug for stepper motors).
What bits are included with the 3018(1810) Pro?
Answer: Ten 20 degree 3.175mm v tip bits, all identical, Ideal for engraving. 1/8” shank bits will also work.
What size wrenches do I need to loosen/tighten the collet?
Answer: 17mm and 13mm
What Feeds and Speeds should I be running?
Answer: Depends. These will change with material being cut, bit type, bit size. This formula is a good place to start, and then adjust with experience. ChipLoad x CutterDiameter x NumberOfFlutes x SpindleSpeed = FeedRate · Chip load for 1/8 bits are different, start with .005 and adjust as needed. · Cutter Diameter and number of flutes depends on the bit selected. · Spindle speed on the 3018 Pro is not marked. I measured it to be around 8350 but varied from day to day (seamed to increase the more I ran the machine). In the woodpecker board default settings 1000 RPM = Max spindle speed. There is a document named “3018-Pro measured Spindle Speeds” uploaded to the files section of the Facebook “Sainsmart CNC router users group” showing the measured spindle speed during a cut with a V-bit for each 100 RPM of programming. There is also an excel federate calculator.
What is homing? Why would I want it? Can the 3018(1810) Pro support it?
Answer: Homing is where the spindle is returned automatically to its Home position (often the left front corner with the spindle all the way up, but there are other options always near the end of the axis). This is useful in aligning the bit to the work piece (by using tool path offsets), and for resetting the machine after problems or re-starts. Home can also facilitate bit changes. In order to use Homing the machine needs to have axis limits, the 3018 Pro did not come shipped with limits, but the woodpecker board and GRBL Control both support it.
